Who we work with

We help all campaign races, even those that rarely get technical support: school boards, city councils, county offices and first-time state legislative candidates across the Metroplex and the surrounding counties.

We work exclusively with Democratic candidates, Democratic Party organizations and allied progressive groups. That boundary is what makes the volunteering possible, because the people who give us their evenings are giving them to campaigns whose goals they already share. If you are not sure whether your race or organization qualifies, ask. The answer is usually yes, and it costs nothing to find out.

What it costs

Volunteer labor is free. Where a project needs something purchased, such as a domain, a texting platform or hosting above a free tier, that cost is yours and we will help you procure for yourself. We will never purchase anything on your behalf.

Why this exists

Technology is one of the cheapest advantages a small campaign can get.

A school board candidate rarely loses because their platform was wrong. More often they lose because the website took six weeks, the volunteer list lived in three spreadsheets, and nobody had time to figure out the texting tool before early voting started.

Those are solvable problems. They are solvable by people who already know how, in the evenings, for free. That is the idea behind Texas Progress Tech.

We know the ground

The races are here and most of our volunteers are too, so we know the counties, the deadlines and the ballot.

Everything we build belongs to the campaign, including domains, accounts and documentation.

How joining actually goes

Fifteen or twenty minutes to understand your skills and how much time you genuinely have. Being honest here helps everyone.
In person deep dive

We will meet to do a deeper dive into the org, our processes, and begin the process of getting you attached to a campaign that needs the skills you provide.

Before you sign up

How much time does this really take?

Most volunteers give two to five hours a week, and many contribute in bursts around specific projects. We would rather have three reliable hours than a promise of ten. Tell us the real number and we will scope to it.

Do I need campaign experience?

No. Many of our volunteers came in with none. The technical part you already know, and we will explain the campaign part as you go.

I am not a programmer. Is there anything for me?

Yes, and it is some of the most needed work we have. Spreadsheet skill, design, writing, IT troubleshooting and plain organizational follow-through are all in short supply. See the Project Coordination and Design tracks above.

Do I have to live in North Texas?

Nearly all of the work is remote, so no. But the campaigns we serve are here, and volunteers who know the area tend to enjoy it more. Tell us where you are and we will work it out.

What happens to my information?

It comes to our inbox and is used to contact you about volunteering. We do not sell it, share it with campaigns without asking you first, or add you to anything you did not ask for.
